EAA AirVenture 2013 is taking place July 29 – August 4. Many of our members make the trip to Oshkosh every year and have been for quite some time. Tom Henry usually volunteers his time at the repair barn and you can often times find Dennis Crispin at campground registration in the 101 Woods area in Camp Scholler. Be sure to stop by and visit them!

You can check out the latest weather forecast for Oshkosh here on the main page of our website on the right hand side. Exposure to sunlight and the heat can be dangerous. It’s important to remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, take breaks, and seek shelter in the shade.
Be sure to check the AirVenture website for schedules and updates. You can find all of the latest information there, along with a “Plan My Schedule” feature that allows you to search keywords to help you plan your trip to the air show.

Thanks to Butch Lottman for sending in another video; click here to watch it. This video was shot in the Platte River Valley; cruising over 40 miles of the river basin with some friends and their air boats, it was beautiful! Watch the video closely as the bald eagles came out to match their skills against his. A reporter from the Bellevue newspaper was there doing some photo coverage and news story on him. Temperature was 75 degrees and the wind was almost dead calm.
We have a very special program lined up for our August Meeting. The meeting will be on Tuesday, August 6 and will feature Don McPherson. Flying a Grumman F6F Hellcat, Don was a WWII Ace. You won’t want to miss this meeting! Our meeting will be at the Duncan Aviation Engine Shop (5000 NW 44th Street — Lincoln, NE) and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
There are several airport breakfasts taking place in August if you’re looking for somewhere to fly to.
August 11, 2013: Airport Breakfast at Vermillion (VMR), South Dakota. Breakfast from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Free-will donation to Lions Club for breakfast; fundraiser for the Senior Citizens Center in Vermillion.
August 11, 2013: Airport breakfast at Flandreau (4P3), South Dakota, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Scrambled eggs, French toast, coffee, juice. PIC FREE. Adults $6.00; kids 4-12 $3.00; kids 3 & under free. Breakfast served by “Team of Angels”. Sanford/Avera Medic helicopter display. Harry Thompson will offer rides in his WWII military T-6 trainer for a fee. Young Eagles Rally by EAA Chapter 289.
August 18, 2013: Airport breakfast in Hartington (0B4), Nebraska, 7:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m. “BEST sausages in a 100 miles.” PIC & co-pilot FREE, adults $6.00, Kids age 5-10 $4.00, under 5 free. Served by Holy Trinity Grade School. Sponsored by Becker Flying Service.
