Chapter Breakfast — Saturday, July 21

Our next Chapter Breakfast will take place on Saturday, July 21.  Everyone is welcome to join us for some great food, coffee, and plane talk.  As always, it’s all you can eat for just a $4 donation!  The breakfast takes place from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the Crete Airport (CEK).

We are in need of volunteers to help out with the breakfasts each month.  If you can help out in any way, even just occasionally, please contact Andy Lahr at 402-540-8014.  Thank you!

Survey on New Directory

Six months ago, we created a new online directory system. This system required all Chapter 569 members to login into the new directory and fill out their contact information in the system. It’s important to understand a few things about this new system:

  • The online directory is only visible to EAA Chapter 569 members.  Members must login to the directory to see any member’s personal information.  Furthermore, members choose what information they would like to provide.
  • We didn’t print out a paper directory for every member this year.  This saved a lot of paper and a lot of money.
  • All of the information is online right here on the Chapter 569 website.  This means members do not have to carry around a directory with them and are able to search the directory and pull up a member’s entry by just typing in their first and/or last name.
  • Members contact information can change at any time: when they get a new phone number, a new email address, or move to a new place of residence.  Through this online system, they can login and update their information at any time.
  • The new directory replaced our online profile system.  This new directory allows members to post their information about their airplane projects and update it at anytime, along with their contact information.
At this time, we are interested in hearing feedback from members on their thoughts on this new directory system.  If you haven’t filled out your information on the directory yet, tell us why.  Tell us what can be done to improve the directory system.  We’re aiming to get all members’ information in the new directory, so tell us what we can do to help make that happen. Please click here and take a few moments to fill out this survey. It’s only seven questions long, and all responses are anonymous. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

If you are a Chapter 569 member, you can go to the online directory at eaa569.org/directory. You will find a list of all members, and you will find that you will need to click on the “Login” button at the top before you can view anyone’s information.  After logging in, you also can click on “Edit/Update Your Profile” which will allow you to supply all your information.  Remember to click on “Update” after making any changes.  We emailed out login information in January, so you will need to login with that.  If you didn’t get an email with your information, or you lost it, or if you have any questions about this new system, please send us an email at webmaster@eaa569.org so we can get you taken care of.

Oshkosh Preview 2012

Believe it or not, it’s that time of the year again to start planning the trip to Oshkosh. The dates this year for Oshkosh are July 23 – July 29, 2012. Many of our members make the trip every year and have been for quite some time. Tom Henry will be volunteering his time at the repair barn and Dennis Crispin will be at campground registration. Don Shoemaker will be sharing stories about his Navion Harvester.

What is EAA AirVenture?

AirVenture takes place once a year around the end of July in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EAA’s renowed annual Airventure Fly-in Convention showcases in one week what EAA is involved in throughout the year. All of EAA’s year-round activities encourage the open exchange information, discussing new ideas and transferring skills from one person to another from generation to generation. In short, they combine to provide a “gateway” to knowledge and new experiences. Thousands of people fly-in their planes that they own and/or have built themselves and share their experiences and expertise. AirVenture attracts people from around 60 different countries; in 2011, AirVenture welcomed 600,000 international visitors. As you can see, AirVenture is a meeting place for people from all over the world to come together and share their passion for aviation. At AirVenture, you will find many exhibits, vendors, conferences, workshops, aircraft on display, and much more.

Where to Stay

Many people choose to camp out on the campgrounds right there at AirVenture. Shower facilities and other accommodations are available. There are also dorms available in and around Oshkosh that are very affordable. Hotels are widely available in the area as well, however, you can expect to pay a premium price for a hotel in or close to Oshkosh during AirVenture. There is more information available on the AirVenture Website.

Admissions

Weekly and daily rates are available for admissions. As an EAA member, you are able to bring one guest and get them in at the discounted price offered to EAA members. The daily price for an adult EAA member is $27; non-EAA member is $41. Weekly pricing is only available to EAA members (and their guest) and is $115. Full pricing information is available on the AirVenture website.

Schedule of Events

Each day has a number of exclusive events planned. In order to take full advantage of AirVenture, it can be a good idea to look over the schedule beforehand to see what interests you. You can find Daily Highlights on the AirVenture website, along with a full schedule of events for each day.

AirVenture NOTAM

The FAA’s handbook for flying to AirVenture, the 2012 Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), has been completed and is now available either in online PDF format or in printed copies available through EAA’s membership services department. The 32-page booklet has several changes from the 2011 Oshkosh NOTAM, including VFR and IFR arrival procedures. Download or order your NOTAM copy.

We’ll have more information on AirVenture in the coming weeks!
