Chapter 569 Member passes

It is with deep sadness we share the news that longtime Chapter 569 member Don Shoemaker passed away on Sunday, April 7. Don was one of the first members of Chapter 569 and was actively involved in all areas of the chapter over the years. He would never miss a chapter event, whether it was a meeting, breakfast, or one of our many picnics that were held at his airfield. Don will certainly be remembered for his dedication, quick-wit, and support of our chapter and all of our members.

Chapter 569 would like to extend our condolences to the Shoemaker family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time.

The family is planning a private family graveside service. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering with light refreshments Friday, April 26 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Roper & Sons South (3940 Hohensee Dr. – SW corner of 40th & Yankee Hill).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Denton Historical Society (Building Fund), St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, or Plymouth United Church of Christ.

Our next Chapter Breakfast is Saturday, April 20th!

Fly-in, drive-in, walk-in with your $5 donation and join us for some great food, plane talk, and camaraderie.

Our breakfast takes place from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Crete Airport (CEK). Whether you are traveling by wheels or wings, be safe and we look forward to seeing you.

 

April Meeting — Tuesday, April 2

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 2. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be at the Duncan Aviation Engine Shop (5000 NW 44th Street — Lincoln, NE). Harold Bickford will give a presentation on phase 1 flight testing using the EAA Flight Test Manual and test card program. Builders who use the EAA Flight Test Manual will complete the program with a thoroughly tested aircraft; full understanding of their craft’s performance, characteristics, and limitations; and enough data to easily build a comprehensive operating handbook for the plane. 

Newcomers and folks interested in joining our chapter are always welcome at our meetings.
